L oeil était dans la tombe et regardait Cain. This piece illustrates the poem by Victor Hugo, La Conscience :
Cain killed his brother Abel. An eye appeared and followed him everywhere. To escape, he had himself buried in a coffin.
But "the eye was in the coffin and was looking at Cain."
